Major update

Reports coming in!!

We have been getting reports of people doing well, (as well as can be expected) post Dean. Keep thise reposrts comming in, we are ALL glad that is looks like we are doing better than expected!

San Pedro is resting easier this morning

San Pedro is resting easier this morning as Hurricane Dean has passed over. Winds were very strong, the water came up quite a bit on the lagoon side, flooding some streets, but damage is limited to docks and debris, there are no major personal injuries.
Over 10,000 people were evacuated from Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker prior to the storm, and about 2,000 remained in shelter for the duration of the hurricane. Intense wave, wind, and rain began late last night and continued til early this morning.

The eye of the storm made landfall near Majahual, a popular port with cruise liners, located about 56 kilometres northeast of Chetumal and the Belize border, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.
Dean packed winds near 270 km/h and was moving west-northwest near 32 km/h across the Yucatan peninsula, on course to reach by Tuesday evening the southern Bay of Campeche, where state oil company Petroleos Mexicanos decided Monday to shut down production on the offshore rigs that extract most of the nation’s oil.

The hurricane has killed at least 12 people across the Caribbean, picked up strength after brushing Jamaica and the Cayman Islands and became a monstrous Category 5 hurricane Monday.

Category 5 storms — capable of catastrophic damage — are extremely rare. Only three have hit the U.S. since 1935.

Updates

Spent most of last couple of days (and night) designing, updating, collecting items for this web site. Let's hope it is never needed, but since it is best to PLAN AHEAD, here ya go..

The links have been created, updated, and changed.

Tweaked ways to get information, and the best way to manage it.

I don't plan to put any pictures on this page to keep it fast loading, but keep up with the blog links below, and they should have plenty of pictures.

I also plan to archive pretty quick to keep just a few pages on the main page Should also speed up loading)

Thanks to everyone that has helped in getting this set up, in one way or another.

All we need if your information. If you plan to leave, or stay, let us know when while you still can.

Let other know about this site. We are all concerned about our friends and family.

No one can predict when the power, or Internet may go off-line or for how long.

Plan Ahead, Stay Safe!

Pet Resources

saw this posting: If you can help, please do!

I have been receiving many calls about the shelter at Barefoot Iguana. I only have 5 volunteers for caring for the animals...AFTER the storm passes. I would really welcome assistance before the storm. I need assistance with the intake of the animals. If I had this, I could open the club now and begin receiving the animals today instead of at 9:00 am tomorrow morning.

Please call me at 226.4079 or on my cell at 625.4551 if you have some time to help.

Ambergris Caye Emergency Response Friends

With the rapidly approaching Hurricane Dean, I thoght it might be a good idea to have a site where people all over the world can find and post information about friends on Ambergris Caye.

As I get time, I'll attempt to collect the information posted (via coments) and create a spreadsheet with the following information:

Last Name, First Name, Date, Status, Location, Contact info

Feel free to leave as much or as little detail as you feel comfortable.

Hopefully this will help limit the individual emails, that may clog everyone's e-mail.

You can also use this as a way to find someone:Hope this helps!
